Ductless Mini-Split Systems for North San Diego County Homes

A ductless mini-split puts a quiet wall or ceiling unit in the rooms you actually use and skips the ductwork entirely. That makes it the right answer for garages turned into offices, ADUs and casitas, additions the original system never reached, and the one bedroom that is always ten degrees hotter than the rest of the house. Cali Breeze installs Mitsubishi, Daikin, Fujitsu and LG systems from single-zone to five-zone, and repairs every brand.

Heat Pumps: One System for Heating and Cooling

A heat pump is an air conditioner that runs in reverse in winter, moving heat into the house instead of out of it. Modern inverter heat pumps heat a Fallbrook home comfortably on the coldest January morning and cost far less to run than propane or electric resistance heat, which is why so many homes in De Luz, Rainbow and Bonsall are switching. We install ducted heat pumps that replace a furnace and AC in one, and ductless heat pumps for room-by-room control.

Mini-Split Repair and Maintenance

Mini-splits are reliable, but they are not maintenance-free. Indoor coils and blower wheels collect dust and mold, condensate pumps clog, and remote or wiring faults show up as error codes on the head unit. Cali Breeze repairs and services all ductless brands, including systems other contractors installed. Call for a repair, or add your mini-split to an annual maintenance visit.

Where a Mini-Split Makes Sense

  • ADUs, casitas and garage conversions. San Diego County has approved thousands of ADUs since 2020, and most are too small to justify ducts. A single-zone mini-split heats and cools one in a day’s install.
  • Additions and bonus rooms. Extending old ductwork usually overloads the existing system. A dedicated zone fixes the new room without touching the old one.
  • Hot bedrooms and home offices. A west-facing room in Escondido or a second-floor office in Vista gets its own thermostat.
  • Homes with no ducts at all. Older Fallbrook and Oceanside houses with wall furnaces and window units can get whole-home comfort with a multi-zone system and no drywall work.
  • Propane and electric-heat homes. A heat pump mini-split cuts heating cost dramatically and adds AC in the same unit.

What It Costs

SystemTypical installed range
Single-zone mini-split (one indoor head)$4,000 – $7,000
Two-zone system$7,500 – $11,000
Three- to five-zone whole-home system$12,000 – $22,000
Ducted heat pump replacing furnace and AC$13,000 – $20,000
Mini-split repair (diagnostic, sensor, board, pump)$200 – $1,200
Mini-split deep clean and maintenance$200 – $400 per head

Heat pump systems that meet efficiency thresholds qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $2,000, and utility incentives change year to year; we tell you what applies to your quote. Financing through Wisetack is available.

How Installation Works

  1. Site visit. We look at the room, the wall or ceiling location for the indoor head, the path for the line set, the outdoor unit location and the electrical panel.
  2. Sizing and quote. Each zone is sized to its room; oversizing a mini-split causes short cycling and humidity problems, so we do not guess.
  3. Install day. A single zone takes about a day: mount the head, run the line set and drain through a 3-inch opening, set the outdoor unit on a pad or wall bracket, add the dedicated circuit, pull the vacuum and charge.
  4. Permit and inspection are handled by us, and we walk you through the remote and the app before we leave.

Mini-Split & Heat Pump Questions

Yes. Inverter mini-splits from Mitsubishi, Daikin and Fujitsu keep full heating capacity well below freezing, and Fallbrook rarely drops under 35°F. They heat more efficiently than propane, electric baseboard or a wall furnace.

One indoor head per room or open area you want to control. A garage ADU is one zone; a three-bedroom home with no ducts is typically four zones (living area plus three bedrooms) on one or two outdoor units. We size each zone during the site visit.

Yes, and it is one of the most common jobs we do. The mini-split handles the addition, garage or hot room independently, so the central system is not overloaded and the rest of the house stays as it is.

Yes. We service all ductless brands regardless of who installed them, including error-code diagnostics, sensor and board replacement, condensate pump repair, refrigerant leaks and deep cleaning of the indoor coil and blower wheel.

Yes. Mini-split and heat pump installations require a mechanical and electrical permit. Cali Breeze pulls the permit and schedules the inspection as part of every installation.

Well-maintained systems typically last 15 to 20 years. Annual cleaning of the indoor coil and filters and keeping the outdoor unit clear of leaves and grove dust is what gets them there.

I had a great experience with Ricky & Davie @ CaliBreeze. Their customer communications were excellent - sending multiple appointment reminders & opportunities to reschedule, if necessary. On every visit they were on-time. They worked with me to detect an intermittent HVAC condensation overflow leak in the attic, repaired the leak, & subsequently installed a missing secondary safety pan with safety switch to prevent future overflow leaks from reaching the ceiling. Start-to-finish the repair & installation processes were performed in a friendly & professional manner. Well done!

I was very happy with the service I received from Ricky at Cali Breeze Heating & Air Conditioning. He showed up on time, sent text reminders and notifications in advance, and was very professional throughout the entire process. I especially appreciated that he did not make a mountain out of a molehill when there was a malfunction with the system. He quickly identified the issue, explained what was needed, and fixed it promptly. I highly recommend Ricky and Cali Breeze Heating & Air Conditioning for their professionalism, reliability, and excellent service! Sam Yaghmaee, Ed.D.

Seriously cannot recommend Cali Breeze AC & Ricky enough!! We called them last week and they were able to come out SAME DAY to Encinitas, figure out what was going on, get everything we needed ordered and covered under warranty, and had us back up and cooling within 48 hours. They were so easy to work with, communicated with us the whole way through, and were super honest about what we actually needed. No crazy upselling or trying to tack things on — which we really appreciated. They even checked our filters while they were there just to make sure everything else looked good. Just an all-around great experience and a really good local company. It’s hard to find people you actually trust with this stuff, and we’ll 100% be calling them again if we ever need anything. Thank you guys for taking such good care of us!!

Since we moved to the area, we did not know a good AC/heating company. I found Cali Breeze online as a) being near me and b) having all 5-star reviews. They did not disappoint. They came out quickly. Pricing was fair, they were friendly, and Ricky was very thorough. And the follow-up was great also, with lots of pictures from the air handler (up in the attic where I never go) and the AC units outside. The also did not try to upsell me on things I did not need. Excellent experience! [update] we had a leaky gasket that was causing water to drip from attic to our ceiling. Ricky found and fixed the problem very quickly and expertly.
